What is EGD?
The high school subject of Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD) teaches learners to communicate graphically and acknowledge principles in both reading and producing technical drawings within various contexts. EGD assists in problem solving as you engage in the design process. In the EGD scope the aim is to emphasise knowledge and skills that centre around mechanical, civil and electrical technology. Technical drawings within the school structure throughout SA has been performed on the outdated “old school” drawing boards but transcending into our present-day, hand drawings has become increasingly unnecessary. CAD4ALL Institute of Applied Architecture identified the limitations and confinement of being taught manual draughting at high school via EGD versus the growing use of CAD software in industry and the significance of the transformation. CAD is a tool for visual communication and has become the cornerstone in the design landscape.
There is a critical need for scholars to progress to the software system and equip themselves for 21st century learning via CAD, BIM & other diverse design mechanisms. AutoCAD is a computer-aided design software that allows you to draw and edit digital 2D and 3D designs quicker and easier than you could by hand. The files can also be easily saved and stored in the cloud and is accessible anywhere at anytime. AutoCAD is used by architects, engineers, interior designers, real estate developers etc. AutoCAD provides unique drafting tools that are used in drawings of engineering components, designs, and infrastructure and is industry’s predominantly utilised software.
